2004 Calina - Reserva, Carmenere, Valle del Maule, Chile ~

This fantastic find is a new release. Midnight garnet in color. Aromas of mixed black fruits and pepper. Flavors of rich blackberry, plums and spice. Juicy tannin laced finish. A great example of why we love to use our decanter. Carmenere once a primary red Bordeaux varietal now appears to be the flagship for Chile! This wine drinks like a thirty dollar bottle of wine. Vibrant aromas of cherry, black tea and a little violet lure you into lustful flavors of black cherries, tea, forest floor and plums. The finish is long and lingering.....wow! 2003 Peachy Canyon, Incredible Red Bin #117, Paso Robles -

***FIRECRACKER***

1 1/2 oz. Blue Ice Vodka
1/2 oz. Cointreau or Triple Sec
3/4 oz. "POM" juice, regular or cherry
Juice of one fresh Key Lime (or 1/4oz regular lime juice)

Mix above ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well, strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a flag toothpick in a slice of Key Lime.

This wine has a beautiful rich coral color. Aromas of citrus, cranberry, strawberry and toast. The palate had layers of strawberry, melon, asian pear and toast. A definite crowd pleaser. @ $18

The finish lingers and the color is stunning. A rich dark garnet with pinkish-lavender bubbles that form when poured. This wine was hand crafted especially for Oliver's Market and is a great buy! Deep ruby in color. The aroma is of spiced laced black fruit. 2002 Acorn Winery Zinfandel, Heritage Vines

Alegria Vineyard, Russian River Valley- This wine has concentrated aromas and flavors of blackberry, black raspberry and plum. The palate extends its complexity with flavors of black pepper and a hint of chocolate that come through after the black fruit flavors. The finish lingers of vanilla laced mixed fruit jam. A fabulous example of how wonderful Zin can be from the Russian River Valley. @ $27.99 Very limited production. 2001, Mazzocco, Chardonnay, River Lane Vineyards, Sonoma County

This is a well balanced elegant Chardonnay. Aromas of gravenstien apple, yellow apple and pear lead you to flavors of baked apple, creamy vanilla and a hint of lemon zest. The finish lingers with a hint of citrus and mineral. A terrific food wine. This Chardonnay tastes like a $40 Chardonnay and is a bargain at @ $12.99 at fine wine shops.

2003 Peterson, Rose, Mendocino County

This is a delicious Rose! Made from 89% Carignane, 8% Syrah and 3% Mouvedre it has aromas of rich raspberries and watermelon. The flavors follow through with raspberry and strawberry that are oh so vibrant on the palate and a finish that lingers with fresh mixed fruit flavors. 200 cases produced $12.00 available at the winery of course www.petersonwinery.com and at Big Johns Market in Healdsburg.

 

2003 Pedroncelli, Zinfandel Rose, Sonoma County

One of my annual favorites. This vintage is no exception. Fresh aromas of cranberry and rhubarb lead you to flavors of juicy red berries along with ripe watermelon. 2002 E. Guigal, Cotes du Rhone, Rose

This is a delicious French Rose. If you haven't yet tried a French Rose pick this one up and give it a swirl. Wild strawberry aromas fill the glass. The palate has flavors of golden raspberry, melon and strawberry. The finish has a hint of rhubarb. A fabulous food wine! @$10.99

This is a fun, refreshing and creative summer cocktail invented by Marvin at the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans. Enjoy!

Summer Southern Comfortini

* 1 ounce Southern Comfort
* 1 ounce Chambord
* 1 ounce Peach Schnapps
* 1 ounce pineapple juice
* Squeeze of lemon

Method: Shake all ingredients over ice until well chilled. Strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with sprig of fresh mint and a peach wedge. Finish with powdered sugar.

This dry white wine is delicious! Moschofilero is an indigenous Greek varietal. Aroma's are loaded with white rose, lemon blossom, peaches, grapefruit and green melon. Flavors are well balanced and have layers of citrus blossom, pink grapefruit, apples and a hint of starfruit. The finish lingers with crisp apple and citrus flavors. "CANTALOUPE MARTINI"

*2 oz Vodka
*2 oz Watermelon Liqueur
Splash of fresh Orange Juice
Splash of fresh Lime Juice

This refreshing cocktail really tastes like you are drinking fresh cantaloupe juice! I discovered this amazing drink while sitting at the Jade Bar in the Sanctuary Resort in Arizona. For a 'less sweet' version, try *2 1/2 oz of Vodka (I like the domestic "Blue Ice" vodka) and *1 1/2 oz of Watermelon Liqueur (Marie Brizard's) Shake and strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with some fresh melon balls on a festive cocktail pick! Enjoy!

2000 Joseph Phelps, "Pastiche" red table wine

This wine is an amazing blend of Rhone varietals ie; Syrah, Mouvedre.... The aroma is spicy and the flavors are complex with lingering mixed berries and the finish has a hint of yummy licorice. Well made and a terrific find this wine goes great with a variety of foods, especially bbq. @$11.99

 

1999 Hawley Merlot, Bradford Mountain

This wine is rich with flavors of blackberry and plum its finish is velvety and elegant with a hint of vanilla it is drinking great now and will age well too. I thought for sure it was a $40 Merlot and to find it at $14.99 (Olivers Markets)I was amazed. Get it while you can....

~Spill Wine?~

Here's a helpful tip for removing wine stains. Use 2 parts of Hydrogen Peroxide to 1 part blue Dawn dishwashing detergent. (must be freshly mixed) pour a little on the wine spot, rub lightly and sponge off. This works great!
